Holiday… Celebrate?

July 20, 2008

Hello world. It’s certainly been a while.

I didn’t write for several reasons. First, the laptop with Internet access was occupied by others, and even though there was an extra Internet ‘wire’, the atmosphere would be very cramped.

My holiday kicked off on 25th June, when I flew from Amsterdam to Vienna (another reminder that Schiphol rocks). Took a bus from Vienna Airport to Bratislava Bus Station (Mlynske Nivy). 32 degrees C. My uncle picked me up and off we went.

Spent the next week preparing for my driver’s tests. 3rd June. Tense as anything and ready to snap. I did progress, but the ’sympathetic’ policeman (looked like a weedy Jean Reno, not cool) failed me.

During the weekend, I went to a small jazz festival (Jazznica) and attended one of the concerts. Quite fun, although world-jazz is probably not something to listen to everyday.

Spent the next week cleaning, eating rye crackers with cream cheese and ham and drowning in self-pity (NOT).  Did a bit more driving in Ziar nad Hronom (‘What a village!’). The Tuesday after, I finally passed and my driver’s licence is currently in the forges of some bureaucratic institution in Slovakia (I dare not guess which).

Feeling relieved, I was persuaded to go back to The Hague for a week, so here I am. Next time, I’ll be discussing the wonders of Jane’s Cuourgette Cake and the Blood Countess.
